Evaluating Pitcher Talent

without comments

USS Mariner has a pretty good reference guide for evaluating pitcher talent. There are some things in it that I’d probably delete, and some things I’d like to add, but as a general guide it serves its purpose. You can find that here. Essentially, it’s an explanation for why ERA, WHIP, batting average against, etc. aren’t so good for evaluating pitcher talent, and what should be used to do so.

Here’s an explanation of why tRA is a good way to judge talent, without using numbers to explain it. For a more complicated version, see here.
